(4) Lifestyle Changes

This fourth step is about making changes to your routine and lifestyle to reduce stress. However you should be careful that you are not making changes as a way of avoiding things you should face.

1. Set time aside to relax and deliberately not think about things that are stressing you. You need to plan these times otherwise they will never happen.

2. Physical exercise to reduce your stress.

3. Try using relaxation exercises to reduce tension.

4. Avoid using alcohol to relax late at night since this will often tend to disturb sleep.

5. Make changes to your life where there are things that cause stress unnecessarily.

6. As far as possible organise your week into a structured routine. Predictability reduces stress.

All these techniques can be used together to help break the stress cycle. Remember that the sooner you tackle your stress the more success you are likely to have, and your stress is not likely to build up to the point that you feel you cannot manage it.
